10 Rock Albums That You Were Never Supposed To Hear

4. The Masterplan - Oasis

It was absolutely tragic to see Oasis flame out like they did back in the late '90s. Right as they seemed to be at the top of their game (and ego trips) after What's the Story Morning Glory?, the release of Be Here Now could be comparable to the death of the Britpop movement as a whole, with nothing but bland songs and potential good ones being strung out to obnoxiously long proportions. Even though it was time to lay low after this, the compilation the Masterplan was at least one final glimpse of past brilliance.

In most cases, the release of B-sides collections like this should be triggering alarm bells, alerting the fans that something is very wrong in the band's world. On the other hand, Oasis is one of those rare bands where their B-sides are up there with some of the greatest things they have ever recorded. As it stands, the Masterplan is an amazing release, taking every single bit of that Manchester magic and putting it under one roof.

For every soft ballad like Talk Tonight, there's something like Headshrinker, all of which speak to the quality of the golden streak that Noel Gallagher was having as one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. Given that these rockers wouldn't release anything else until the early '00s, this serves as one last victory lap for one of the most awe-inspiring acts to ever come out of Britain.
