10 Rock And Metal Albums From The 2000s The Critics Got Wrong

9. Good Morning Revival - Good Charlotte (2007)

Good Charlotte have never been particularly popular with critics, and their fourth album is no exception. The Guardian described Good Morning Revival as a ‘preposterous’ (ridiculous) album without any emotional depth, and Rolling Stone used the word ‘cruddy’ in reference to the album’s lead single in their two-star review.

Granted, Good Morning Revival isn’t an amazing record – the lyrics are just too lacklustre. But it does contain plenty of hooks that are more than satisfactory if you’re looking to sing along to some catchy tunes. ‘The River’ has an unforgettable chorus and the additional vocals from Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadow’s help to elevate the song still further. The other key standouts are ‘Keep Your Hands Off My Girl’, ‘All Black’, and ‘Break Apart Her Heart,’ all of which have terrific choruses.

There’s plenty of enjoyment to be had with Good Charlotte’s fourth album. Though it’s littered with teenage angst and corny lyrics, it’s a perfectly adequate album if you’re looking for some great hooks.
