10 Rock Artists That Had Hit Singles Over A Decade Apart
9. Meat Loaf - 12 Years
On paper, an overweight man performing semi-operatic rock songs about demons and motorcycles sounds like a total bust, but Michael Lee Aday had the talent and the chutzpah to make this bizarre combo work.
Under the stage name Meat Loaf, this musical whirlwind captured the hearts of the world with his 1977 album Bat Out of Hell. Whilst tracks like Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, and You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth are all excellent, the one everyone remembers is the title track.
This emotional saga somehow didn't chart in America (no taste, that lot), but it did reach number eight in the UK. It proved so popular in Blighty that it was reissued in 1993, peaking at the exact same position.
As a result, Loafy scored his first top ten since 1981's Dead Ringer for Love, a duet with Cher. Later that same year, he roared his way to the top of the charts with the almighty I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That).
He never did tell anyone what "That" was. Presumably it was doing the dishes.
