10 Rock Artists That Ripped Off Other Bands
3. Muse
At the start of the '00s, rock and roll didn't really sound that original anymore. While acts from the pop punk and nu metal genres were still gracing the charts, you could still trace their lineage back to bands that were doing the same thing for the past decade. Even with Muse rising to prominence as the return of stadium rock, you could still see their influences seeping through the mix.
With just a passing glance, you can easily see the influence of a band like Queen in their delivery, given Matt Bellamy's penchant for writing gargantuan riffs and a booming voice akin to Freddie Mercury's. On the other hand, there's no question that these guys really wanted to be Radiohead in the early days, with albums like Showbiz and even bits of Origin of Symmetry having Jonny Greenwood-like guitar lines and Bellamy's falsetto being more in line with that of Thom Yorke.
However, things have started to branch out for Muse over the years, as they have transitioned into their space age rock with ease, even incorporating a few metal licks into the mix on tracks like Stockholm Syndrome and Citizen Erased. It may have taken them a while to get their sound down, but you might still be able to hear bits and pieces of Muse's heroes showing a little too much.
