10 Rock Artists With Multiple Classics Under Their Belt

4. Pearl Jam

In the age of grunge, Pearl Jam may have been some of the most reluctant rock stars to ever come across MTV. Even though people like Kurt Cobain didn't really like to be known as iconic figures, Eddie Vedder seemed to shun the spotlight most of the time, not cutting music videos after their first album and looking to sue Ticketmaster rather than cower to what MTV was doing. If you look at where they started though, it's no surprise why the networks loved these guys so much.

Starting from their debut Ten, Pearl Jam hit the ground running with some of the best songs of their career, taking cues out of the classic rock playbook to create a mix of tracks that were ready for the arena, like the massive riffs of Even Flow and Alive and the introspective ballads like Black and Oceans. In the wake of them becoming famous though, Eddie wanted to reel things back, and that kind of introspection made them even more interesting on their third outing Vitalogy.

Looking to embrace the weirder sides of their sound, the songs that turn up here are some of the most intimate Pearl Jam tracks they would ever create, giving the ballads a lot of room to breathe on songs like Nothingman and Immortality as well as letting the faster songs get even more hectic on Spin the Black Circle and Whipping. Ten might have been the catch all for rock fans around the world, but Vitalogy is where we started to love the members of Pearl Jam more as people as well as musicians.
