10 Rock Bands People Love To Hate
2. Bring Me The Horizon
In some respects, Bring Me The Horizon have taken over the duty of being a polarising band that everyone apparently hates from the previously mentioned U2. Formed in Sheffield by Oli Sykes, Matt Kean, Lee Malia, Cutis Ward and Matt Nicholls in 2004, Bring Me The Horizon have attempted every genre from deathcore to EDM. It is incredible to believe that ‘Sempiternal’ and ‘Amo’ were created by the same band just five years apart considering how completely different they sound to one another.
Hate against BMTH mainly stems from fans of the band's older material, who feel they have ‘sold out’ to a mainstream audience with more recent releases. Vocalist Oli Sykes has also been dragged into a collection of personal controversies including three court cases (though he has never been formally handed any criminal charges) and aligning himself with divisive animal rights group, PETA.
Presently, Bring Me The Horizon have six full length studio albums, four of which topped the albums chart in Australia. Sykes has gone on record saying how he enjoys the ‘polarising’ nature of his band’s material and they persist as one of the top names in the British music scene.
