10 Rock Bands That Bounced Back From Bad Albums

9. We Are Not Your Kind - Slipknot

Not all bouncebacks have to come from necessarily bad albums. Though some of these are definitely some of the worst their respective bands have to offer, other times it will just feel like the musicians are coaxing on easy mode rather than delivering a quality record. Then again, can you really blame Slipknot for the hand they'd been dealt with .5 the Gray Chapter?

After losing both Joey Jordison and founding member Paul Gray in the process of making their fifth album, many people were skeptical as to whether the 9 would be able to really bring the pain like they could in the old days anymore. In the case of We Are Not Your Kind, Slipknot took all of the pain of the past 5 years and channeled it into every song they played. Being equal parts experimental and ferocious as hell, this album from 2019 was what the Maggots needed to know that Slipknot were back, bringing some of the heaviest riffs in ages along with a surprisingly intimate look at people's struggles with mental health.

Aside from just being a slamfest from back to front, this latest release is a little something for every stripe of Slipknot, both reaching some of the most interesting experimental moments while keeping everything Iowa levels of heavy. It was a long journey back from Hell, but it looks like our masked brethren are back on the mend.
