10 Rock Bands That Bounced Back From Bad Albums
4. Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam
Not many artists can manage to have their best records right out of the gate like Pearl Jam. While some bands tend to trail off after their slamming debut record, these hopefuls from Seattle managed to just get better as the years went on, with Vs. being a punk driven affair and Vitalogy having some classics amid some of its weirder moments. Then again, those weirder moments should have been a sign of bad things to come.
Starting with No Code, the next few years would be a little rough for the grunge icons, going in more of an art rock direction and making some of the more forgettable albums of their career like Riot Act. Aside from the occasional single though, none of the records really hit with too much of a punch until we reached the band's self titled record, which managed to kick them back into high gear again.
Originally written with the concept of mortality in mind, this is a much more straightforward rock record that most fans wondered if the band even had in them anymore, balancing out slower moments like Come Back with sonic fireballs like Comatose and World Wide Suicide. For as much sonic experimentation they may have been trying in their later years, this was the announcement that Pearl Jam were ready to kick some ass again.
