10 Rock Bands That Got Banned For Stupid Reasons

9. My Generation - The Who

The Who were definitely a different beast when compared to their Mod counterparts. As opposed to the typical rock and roll R&B tunes that were being hammered out by his peers, Pete Townshend's material was a lot leaner, meaner, and louder than anything else that had come before it. However, sometimes people will make any old excuse to block you from the youth of England.

With the release of My Generation, the Who had made one of the most caustic rock singles ever created, being the signal for the punk music that was to come in later years. For as many people found it uncomfortable to listen at such punishing volumes, what really got them was the way Roger Daltrey enunciated his words when he spoke. Given the strange stuttered vocal style that he employed, many people were calling for the song to be removed from the airwaves because it was deemed offensive to stutterers.

If anything though, this way of singing was born out of excitement more than anything else, as Daltrey sounds like he's trying to contain his anticipation for the massive amount of volume that's going on behind him. While there may have been a bit of uneasiness amongst the British public at the beginning, that didn't stop My Generation becoming a classic of rock and roll as well as one of the go-to songs any aspiring rock band tries out for the first time.
