10 Rock Bands That Had A Really Shaky Start
7. Radiohead
Looking back on your first record after being in the game for a while tends to feel like looking at baby pictures. Though many artists can sport amazing debuts that they can return to again and again, some people would rather have their first steps swept under the rug half of the time. Enter: Radiohead.
Ever since the end of the '90s, these English rockers have been the epitome of experimental, from the electronic juggernaut Kid A to the late period masterpiece In Rainbows. On Pablo Honey though, something is just tonally off from the first minute you put it on. While it may have been serviceable enough for its time, most of these songs run as just bland alternative rock songs that were meant to ride the coattails of the grunge movement that was happening overseas. Across this album, songs like Stop Whispering and You aren't necessarily bad, but they are starting to sound much more dated with the passage of time.
This album also looks like a mess in retrospect, with Creep being the only real song that people tend to remember from this record. Even the members themselves don't really like to revisit this one all that often, with Creep being absent from most of their live shows ever since. If you're into alternative rock, this is a good helping of that, but if you want to do a deep dive into Radiohead, by no means should you start here.
