10 Rock Bands That Had Alter Egos
9. The Fireman - Paul McCartney
At this point in time, there's probably only a handful of people in the Western world who don't know who Paul McCartney is. Even if you don't count his many amazing solo efforts, his work with the Beatles has made him one of the most famous men in the world, complete with some songs that have become modern standards of pop music. So you'd understand that Paul would need a bit of an alias if he wanted to do something a little offbeat.
Working with producer Youth, Macca has had a side project more recently known as the Fireman, where he releases more electronic leaning music. While he had tried his hand at some experimental stuff early in his career on albums like McCartney II, hearing something like Electric Arguments is almost surreal coming out of Paul, with him bringing in some more glitchy synths into the mix.
There are also a few spots in here that sound nothing like the man who gave you Band on the Run, like the album Rushes, which stands as just a bunch of remixes of electronic dance songs. Then again, Paul's not trying to hide who he is from anyone by any stretch, even singing some of his Fireman songs like Sing the Changes live in concert when they were released. Seeing how the man has been a part of music history for half a century, it's nice to see him actively trying to push himself that much further as a songwriter.
