10 Rock Bands That Had Alter Egos
6. Alice Cooper - Alice Cooper
When Alice Cooper were first cutting their chops, the darker side of rock and roll didn't have its time in the sun just yet. Along with some of the horror rock acts like Screamin Jay Hawkins, these were looked at like novelty artists without any hope of getting hits any time soon. That was Alice Cooper the band though, and it was time for Vincent Furnier to fully adopt his persona as the man called Alice.
Becoming more and more grotesque every single night, Alice Cooper was designed to be someone who crawled right out of the crypt, singing songs that were all about the darker side of life, whether that be dead babies or the rough and tumble punk attitude. Along with some unstoppable singles like School's Out and I'm Eighteen, this was every mom's worst nightmare, with Alice getting dismembered at every gig only to rise again at the end of the show.
As time has gone on though, the bloodshed has only gotten more extreme, with Alice going through everything from being hung in the gallows to being hit with spikes to having his head chopped off in a guillotine. It might be considered a bit of a dirty job by some of us, but if you want to get the kids in the seats, Alice knows that he needs to tap into the darker side of life.
