10 Rock Bands That Only Have One Bad Album

2. Led Zeppelin

Bad Album: In Through the Out Door

The first four album run of Led Zeppelin is enough to put them in the conversation of rock legends. Once the blues rock boom of '60s England began to spread out, records like Houses of the Holy and Led Zeppelin II became the blueprint of what rock was going to look like for many years to come. Though there was a bit of an adjustment period going into the album Presence, In Through the Out Door is where you start to see the cracks forming.

Going into recording, most of Zeppelin were in really bad shape, with Robert Plant still reeling over the death of his young son to a stomach ailment. As it stands, this is probably the most misguided mainstream release that Zeppelin ever put to tape, with songs like Hot Dog feeling like they're wasting time just so they can get to the next song. Since it's a Zeppelin record though, it's not all bad, with Fool in the Rain having some of John Bonham's most inventive drumming and All My Love being a stunning tribute to Plant's son and an opportunity for John Paul Jones to break out a new synthesizer.

This did end up being somewhat of an omen though, as Bonham would die of alcohol poisoning before Zeppelin could even take to the road to promote it. For as much as Zeppelin are celebrated as rock and roll giants, they really deserved a better final hoorah than this.
