10 Rock Bands That Ripped Off Their Own Songs

5. Morning Bell/Amnesiac - Radiohead

Going into any Radiohead record, it's almost expected that the band is going to switch things up pretty drastically. The growth between The Bends and OK Computer already had thrown a lot of us for a loop, but the turn of the century with Kid A was a bit of a headtrip, with the next U2 suddenly going digital with more abstract approaches to songwriting. This was when Radiohead officially left rock behind, but they did still find time to recontextualize some of their hits as well.

While Amnesiac has been given the title of a glorified Kid A B-sides record, the original plan was to put these together as one double album experience before deciding to cut out all of the unnecessary parts. Though it would be criminal to live in a world without something like Pyramid Song, we also get a new version of Morning Bell from Kid A, with a feel that is much more foreboding than before. Since most of us had settled into the groove of the original, the band construction of this version along with the different time signature gives you an added sense of dread.

As the song catches you off guard from the minute it starts, the whole thing feels like having a bit of a reoccurring dream, this time much more realistic and terrifying than before. The Kid A version definitely had a chilling atmosphere behind it to begin with with all its digital extensions, but the Amnesiac take on the song taps into something a lot more human and disturbing.
