10 Rock Bands That Ripped Off Their Own Songs
3. D'You Know What I Mean - Oasis
There's a good chance that anything Oasis released after What's the Story Morning Glory couldn't really fail. After coming off of some of the biggest songs they would ever make like Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger, fans were getting desperate for new Oasis music and Be Here Now finally gave us the Gallaghers staking their claim as the biggest band in the world. People were so caught up in the star power though that some of them forgot that the opening song was just the same thing all over again.
After the buzzy intro with different sounds of feedback and helicopter sounds, D'You Know What I Mean kicks in with the exact same chord progression of Wonderwall, only with a bit more attitude this time around. Compared to the soft tender ballad that happened with the original, Noel seems to be comfortable sitting on his throne through most of this song, talking about all of the people that have come behind him and how he was able to claw himself up to the top of the world.
Even if it's a bit overdramatic, this almost seems like Oasis doing their own sound to the point of parody, including shoehorning the Beatles song titles like Fool on the Hill and I Feel Fine into the lyrics for no apparent reason. It didn't really matter though. They were living the lives that all of their rock star idols had been able to lead, and were more than comfortable to take that victory lap for however long it would take them.
