10 Rock Bands That Survived Key Members Leaving
5. Tony McCarroll - Oasis
Whilst both Noel and Liam Gallagher have had their fair share out bust ups and walk outs during Oasis' time at the top, Tom McCarroll was the first instance of someone walking out on the group and not coming back.
Tony was a friend of Noel and Liam Gallagher during childhood and was actually a member of the band that would become Oasis before the brothers, having formed The Rain with Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs and Paul McGuigan. Whilst they might have been friends initially, tensions began to mount between Tony and Noel in particular, with Noel regularly 'forgetting' Tony's name in interviews and claiming that he wasn't up to the task of performing a number one hit.
Tony was however a more than capable drummer in Oasis' early rise, most notably in Supersonic which he helped co-write. He walked away from the band in April 1995 however, and launched a controversial lawsuit against Oasis in 1999 which resulted in an out-of-court settlement of £550,000.
Oasis would go on to become one of the key players in the Cool Britannia Britpop era, reaching their peak in the years immediately surrounding McCarroll's dismissal. They released six more albums, went on seven more world tours and produced arguably their biggest hits in Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back In Anger and Wonderwall.
