10 Rock Bands That Survived The Deaths Of Key Members

9. The Who - Keith Moon

There had been wild rockstars in the past, but the Who's drummer Keith Moon was known as the great madman of rock and roll. Affectionately titled Moon the Loon, his antics from hotel debauchery to drug abuse would always be taken to the nth degree. Given his resiliency, it seemed that Moon's energy would never be stopped, but the man had a troubled future.

After attending the premiere of The Buddy Holly Story, Moon swallowed a handful of sedatives that were prescribed to help him with alcohol withdrawal and died in his sleep. While replacing a drummer doesn't seem like a difficult task, Moon's pummeling style was one of the key components of the Who's most rocking moments.

As the Who continued on, the band recruited powerhouse drummers to provide the proper thunder like Kenney Jones from the Small Faces and eventually gaining Ringo Starr's son Zak Starkey. The band also went on to have multiple hits after Moon's demise like "You Better You Bet" and the colossal "Eminence Front." While the beating heart of the Who may be beating differently these days, the power behind their tunes keep fans coming back for more.
