10 Rock Bands That Survived The Deaths Of Key Members
6. Slipknot - Paul Gray
Slipknot were one of the most beautiful messes to come out of the 90's nu metal movement. The meld of every heavy genre that their music encompassed was turned up to 1000 every time you put on one of their records. Through the good and bad times, the band forged ahead like a gang of misfits that would seem to go on like brothers in arms for all of eternity.
As the band wrapped up a leg of their tour, tragedy struck the band when founding member and principal riff writer Paul Gray was found dead in his hotel room having overdosed on drugs. After the funeral, it was a long road before the band got back on the road. However, once the band hunkered down and started firing on all cylinders again, they were in a good enough place to actually function as a band and enter the studio once again. The 9's next release .5 The Gray Chapter, has an overarching theme in tribute to Gray, with many of the songs detailing loss and understanding the tragedies around you.
Even with their brother absent, Slipknot proved to themselves that the music they make has the ability to transcend death itself.
