10 Rock Bands That Wrote Songs In Different Genres

7. You Gave Me the Answer - Wings

As the Beatles started to branch out into their own separate songwriting styles, there was definitely a rub between what John Lennon and Paul McCartney were coming up with. Though Lennon was known for putting down some of his own songs for not being all that great, he had less enthusiasm for Paul's 'granny-sh*t' music, which reared its head when he went into '20s style songs like Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Honey Pie. It had been a long time since the Beatle days, but Macca could never really shake the classics itch on You Gave Me The Answer.

Compared to John keeping him in check back in the Beatle days, 90% of this song's appeal is pure camp, as Paul hams it up and does his most cheeky vocal in all of Wings' career, sounding like an old school crooner and even taking time out of the middle of the song and asking his lovely lady Linda if she would like to dance.

It also sticks out like a sore thumb when you look at the rest of what Paul was trying to do with the album Venus and Mars. Here we have an entire project centered around a rock and roll show going on in space, and all of a sudden we have to take a break for an old school number in the middle of the action. Then again, these records remained classics for a reason, and who's to say that some extraterrestrial beings can't do a little soft shoe if they want to?
