10 Rock Bands Who Blatantly Copied Other Artists
4. Name And Address - Paul McCartney
In the grand scheme of rock and roll, there probably aren't that many people arguing about Paul McCartney's pedigree as a musician. Compared to many of the other classic songwriters of the '60s, McCartney can practically fill up a greatest hits album with songs that have defined childhoods for years now. That doesn't mean he's above paying tribute to his influences though.
During his pop rock period with Wings, London Town is one of McCartney's more yacht rock centric releases, down to the fact that some of it was recorded aboard an actual yacht. Though songs like I'm Carrying and the title track are a lot more cutesy than pure rock and roll, the song Name and Address shows McCartney going back to the early days of rock royalty. From the excessive reverb on his voice to the lower register he has, the entire song is about as close as McCartney comes to an Elvis parody, even having a rockabilly rhythm underneath it all.
Compared to some of the more flagrant plagiarisms though, this doesn't feel mean spirited in the slightest, with Paul, Denny Laine, and Linda McCartney having some fun tipping their hat to the first true champion of rock and roll. We're a far ways off from the real King here, but this is more than qualified to have a throne of its own.
