10 Rock Bands Who Never Topped Their First Album

7. Panic! At The Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (2005)

There wasn't an emo kid alive in 2005 who hadn't heard of closing the goddamned door, and with good reason. Panic! at the Disco romped onto the scene with their new emo masterpiece, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, rivalling only Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance in the eyeliner and straighteners department.

This was back in the days when Panic! At The Disco were a four-piece band, firing on all cylinders, long before singer Brendon Urie took the name for himself in an increasingly ego-driven attempt to penetrate the pop mainstream -- but we'll get to that.

Inspired by the writings of the grand wizard of transgressive fiction Chuck Palahniuk, the songs dealt in surprisingly complex themes for a teenage foursome straight out of Vegas. But, with a string of song names bearing little or no relation to their lyrical content and a soundscape layered with guitars, piano, synthesizers and Urie's quirky, breathless vocals, this was a new twist in the emo rock and pop punk road, which arguably paved the way for such similarly baroque releases as MCR's Black Parade (2006).

Though many of the Panic! albums are impressive and worthwhile in their own right, Urie has unfortunately diluted the sound over the past half decade, making the once-innovative act just another bland pop project.
