10 Rock Bands Who Sold Out (But We Love Them Anyway)
6. Motley Crue
From marrying Pamela Anderson, to almost dying, to watching Ozzy Osbourne drink his own urine, the Motley Crue lads have contributed to some of the wildest legends in the history of the music business.
Their chaotic real-life energy was more than reflected in their musical work. The group gave the world some of the hardest hitting, frenetic music of the hair metal era, with songs like Girls, Girls, Girls, Kickstart My Heart, and Dr. Feelgood.
However, with members as volatile as they had, it's no surprise that the band went through some significant changes over the years.
As the style of music they were most associated with faded out of fashion, the Crue tried and failed to change with the times. When the 2000s rolled around, their music had more of a nu-metal/grungey quality to it, which was the last thing anybody wanted to hear.
To be honest, the band should have called it a day as soon as the '80s was over. They'd already built up an immovable reputation as one of rock's maddest troupes and their stories of decadence are far more impressive than any music they've produced in the years following.
