10 Rock Cover Songs Better Than The Original

2. "Stand By Me" By Ben E King – Covered By Pennywise

With this song being from the 60’s it is naturally very dated, but like the other songs on this list was a hit in it’s time and has proven to be an iconic song being used regularly in movies, commercials and video games in the last few decades. Having been covered by several bands, there are many great versions of this song, but my personal favorite cover of this song comes from the California based punk band, Pennywise.

Simply put, Pennywise takes this dated 60’s song and turns it into a punk classic. Starting off the song in the standard form to the original, the song transitions into full punk speed, sound, complete with swear words and never slows down from that point. For me, this made it feel like Pennywise really put themselves and their heart into the song, causing it to be more impactful and soulful than the original.
