10 Rock Guitarists That Are Impossible To Duplicate
6. Lindsey Buckingham - Fleetwood Mac
And now we go from one of the heaviest guitarists of all time to by far one of the most mellow sounding people in rock and roll. To the blues purists of the world, Lindsey Buckingham is the reason why Fleetwood Max sold out, bringing with him a greater attention to folk rock and pop than the sweet sounds that Peter Green made back in their bluesy prime. If you listen to what Lindsey's actually doing though, you have to give the man props.
Outside of being an incredible songwriter, the main quirk behind Buckingham's playing was the fact that it was all in his fingers. Suffice to say, you won't be needing a pick for any of Lindsey's classic lines, with every single track being played finger style, whether it was the distorted chords of Go Your Own Way or the soothing guitar figure that makes up Landslide.
Being more in tune with his instrument, this led to a lot of times where Lindsey would play two rhythms at the same time, like in Never Going Back Again where he creates a symphony of notes on just one guitar. Even though Lindsey's out of the Mac at the moment and replaced by Neil Finn and Mike Campbell, there's a certain element of magic that comes from him and his signature finger sound. Then again, you know the guy's one of a kind when you need two people to replace him in the band.
