10 Rock Guitarists That Are Impossible To Duplicate

4. Jimi Hendrix

If you think of the archetype for a guitar hero, most people are already going to think of Jimi Hendrix. Ever since he hit the London club scene back in the late '60s, Hendrix always exuded the charisma of a guitar legend, almost like he was in communion with his instrument every time he plugged it in. Though there have been many that Hendrix have inspired since his death, the real magic comes from just how inventive he was.

Listening back to the sounds that he was creating, Hendrix was practically born a few years too early, bringing with him techniques that were unheard of at the time like playing behind his head and going so far as to actually play the guitar with his teeth on a few occasions. The real magic came with what he played though, which involved a combination of both rhythm and lead guitar that left fans with their mouths on the floor.

Though you can clearly pick out the chords that Hendrix played on something like The Wind Cries Mary for instance, the inflection that he puts on it almost feels like he's dropping lead licks in the middle of his rhythm playing, almost like how a pianist would fill out the sound of their keyboard. Considering you've seen Hendrix's legacy passed on years later from everyone from Prince to Mike McCready, this mad gypsy practically wrote the sound of the future.
