10 Rock Music Albums Where One Person Plays Everything
4. Lonerism - Tame Impala
Sometimes in music, someone will come along who just gets every single part of the business. This generation's master auteur is Kevin Parker, the Australian polymath best known as the driving force behind neo-psychedelia act Tame Impala.
For Impala's first album, Innerspeaker, Parker recruited his friends Don Simper and Jay Watson to help him out. By the time the of their second album, Lonerism, Parker went "Nah, you're good" and decided to take on the challenge alone.
Apart from Watson making some brief appearances on two songs, Parker does everything on Lonerism, which is the album that really catapulted him to worldwide attention. The songs Feels Like We Only Go Backwards and Elephant stand out as favourites, not least because the latter was brilliantly covered by The Wiggles in 2021.
If anything, Kev would double down on taking matters into his own hands for his future projects, but Lonerism is probably the most rock-heavy Tame Impala album, as Currents and The Slow Rush are more synth-pop.
Fingers crossed that his work continues on its natural trajectory, and we get that one-man Gregorian chant album some time soon.
