10 Rock Music Debuts That Changed The Game

4. Ramones - Ramones

For as much as the '70s are known as the golden era for rock and roll, you start to get into a bit of a slump once you hit the mid '70s. There were definitely some amazing acts coming through with killer albums, but the sounds of prog rock taking over the charts was getting way too complex, with fans having to slog their way through 8 minute exercises just to hear one song. Rock and roll was always about attitude, and four misfits from the boroughs of New York reignited rock's passion in just under half an hour.

While there's hardly that much on the Ramones' debut, every single song counted for them, taking customary pop rock tracks and injecting them with attitude and a whole lot more speed, like the manic energy behind Blitzkrieg Bop or the sappy love ballad on I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend. Though England would take credit for it in the coming years with bands like the Sex Pistols and The Clash, punk rock was born out of this record, taking the bare minimum song structure and turning it into some of the greatest songs ever written.

As much as some of these songs have been embedded in our brains from being used in movies, that doesn't take away from the raw sound of this record. These were just a couple of guys with no money to their name pumping out some of the best music that they knew how to make. And when you're willing to bleed for your art like this, that's more than enough.
