10 Rock Musicians Who Almost Died On Tour
6. Nikki Sixx - Motley Crue
If you needed the guidebook to how to live the hair metal lifestyle, Motley Crue pretty much had you covered. Across the entire '80s, these guys were the posterchildren of what the rock and roll lifestyle can do to you, with Vince Neil already serving a sentence for accidentally killing Hanoi Rocks member Razzle during a drunk driving incident. Though there was already a lot of darkness surround them, no one could have predicted that this was just the beginning.
In between the touring for Theatre of Pain, Nikki Sixx took some time to chill out in his apartment before heading overseas (read as: fix up in his apartment). While it wasn't out of the ordinary for the Crue to get their hands on whatever drugs they could, Sixx's decision to have someone else shoot him with heroin proved to be fatal, stopping his heart for a good few minutes. By the time paramedics arrived on the scene, Sixx was declared dead before someone got the idea to hit him with adrenaline.
A la Pulp Fiction, Sixx was given two adrenaline needles in his chest before resurfacing, inadvertently saving his life. Even though Sixx went back to shooting up shortly after treatment, the Crue's manager insisted that they not continue the next leg of the tour, saying that one of them was more likely to come back in a body bag than on their own two feet. While Nikki managed to write a song about it called Kickstart My Heart, there's not that many people willing to die in order to get their inspiration.
