10 Rock Musicians Who Almost Died On Tour
7. Taylor Hawkins - Foo Fighters
Everyone has their own preconceived notions of what it means to be a rock star. While some may think it all comes down to the music, others may need that one little X-factor to make them feel truly dangerous. Once you take it a step too far though, things can get ugly really fast.
As the Foo Fighters went out on tour to promote their album There is Nothing Left To Lose, Taylor Hawkins was really starting to get carried away with narcotics. Going to the Keith Richards school of rock excess, Hawkins saw no problem in living the hard partying lifestyle in between playing the set every night. The whole facade soon came crashing down around him though after a gig in 2001, when he overdosed on heroin and fell into a coma for a few days. This hit Dave Grohl especially hard, who had already lost his previous bandmate Kurt Cobain not even a decade earlier.
Though Hawkins would make a full recovery shortly afterwards, this started up some bad blood going into recording the album One by One, with Grohl joining Queens of the Stone Age to cool out from all the madness. Rock music may have been founded on excess, but this is proof that it does end up taking its toll on the people around you.
