At the height of their fame, Guns N' Roses wouldn't so much court controversy, they would actively attract it. Most of that had to do with the famously unpredictable Axl Rose and his unwavering attempts at perfection. Never has there been a more apt example of this as their 1991 show at the St Louis Riverport Amphitheater, which descended into pure anarchy. Unlike most GnR shows, they managed to get things going on time and without incident - it wasn't until they were deep into their set and in the middle of Rocket Queen that things turned sour. Rose spotted a punter in the crowd who had a camera and was taking pictures of the show (remember, 23 years ago certain bands and venues didn't allow cameras full stop) and between lines in the song called out on the microphone for security to get the device off him. Dissatisfied with the response from security, Rose proclaimed "I'll take it, goddamn it" and leaped from the stage into the audience to wrestle the camera off the fan. Having tackled the audience member, taken the camera and swiped at a couple of other fans who tried to intervene, Rose got back on stage, stopped the song and said he was going home, then smashed his microphone off the stage and walked off. The crowd then began to riot and caused injuries to dozens of fans and massive damage to the venue. Rose was charged with inciting a riot but had already left for the European leg of the tour before he could be arrested. The band tried to argue that they had asked for cameras to be removed multiple times but the security at the venue hadn't responded to their requests. Regardless, it goes down in history as one of the most notorious rock n' roll moments ever. Are there any rock n' roll excess incidents we missed off that are just hilariously over the top?
