10 Rock Singers Who Fronted Two Great Bands

3. Scott Weiland

The late Scott Weiland was, of course, known as the frontman of Stone Temple Pilots. However, he was an incredibly versatile artist - really, how many rock stars these days put of Christmas albums? Let alone good ones!

Of course, it was STP that brought about Weiland's rise (and, lets be honest, fall). It was his voice that broke through on tracks like Plush and Sex Type Thing from their debut album, Core. It was that same voice that carried songs like Sour Girl later on.

However, drug abuse led to the increasingly erratic Weiland parting ways with the band in the early 2000s. From there, he would link up with ex-Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum to form Velvet Revolver. While the name was a little too "on the nose" for a band featuring ex-GNR guys, the first album, Contraband, was a hit. It was a welcome return to sleaze rock, and Weiland proved he could be just a good a frontman in that world as he could in the Alt. Rock niche.

However, drugs once again derailed the band's success. After their second album, Libertad, Weiland's return to his old ways resulted in his dismissal from the group. He would return to Stone Temple Pilots for one last album (Between the Lines), then find himself dismissed, and go it solo until his death in late 2015.
