10 Rock Songs That People Have Completely Misunderstood

8. Black Stone Cherry - Runaway

As the torchbearers of modern southern rock, Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry have enjoyed a gradual and impressive rise to fame since their full album debut in 2006. In their time, Black Stone Cherry have toured the world and played some of the biggest festivals on the planet, which included sub-headlining Download Festival 2018 to Guns n Roses. Black Stone Cherry now have seven studio albums to their name and show no signs of slowing down but their fourth album, ‘Magic Mountain’, is the focus here.

‘Magic Mountain’ came out in 2014 and was the group’s first album in three years. The longer pause between records was caused by singer and guitarist, Chris Robertson, needing time away to battle substance addiction. ‘Magic Mountain’ includes big songs for the band such as ‘Me and Mary Jane’ but also features the somewhat overlooked ‘Runaway’.

Lines in ‘Runaway’ like ‘I've been feeling all alone, I've had no one to lean on’ and ‘Run, run away. Don't have to pretend that I'm okay’ led fans to believe that the song was about loneliness or a break-up. In spite of this, Robertson confirmed in a 2018 interview that ‘Runaway’ was actually about his addiction struggles and seeking help, as was the album’s opening song ‘Holding On to Letting Go’.
