10 Rock Songs That Ripped Off Other Songs

1. Noel Gallagher's Glam Rock Tendencies - Cigarettes and Alcohol

Oasis have written some of the most indelible rock music to come out of the 90's. Across albums like Definitely Maybe and What's the Story Morning Glory, the band took all of the things we love about rock and roll and put them together to create some of the greatest songs the decade had to offer from "Live Forever" to "Champagne Supernova." That didn't stop Noel Gallagher from getting into hot water when the lawyers came calling.

As he was writing in his flat with his amp blasting, Noel started to play a bluesy pattern that would become the basis for "Cigarettes and Alcohol." Before any note went to tape, rhythm guitarist "Bonehead" Arthurs was quick to point out that the riff was a blatant knock off of the T. Rex hit "Bang a Gong."

Rather than be concerned, Noel was quoted as saying he couldn't give a s**t who it sounded like so long as it sounded good coming out of Oasis. The song ended up being one of the band's biggest singles off their debut album and one of the best depictions of unemployed 20-somethings in the late 90's. Oasis may be a far cry from the glam rock of the 70's, but in terms of raw musical structure, this riff is still smothered in the glitter scene that Marc Bolan helped birth.
