10 Rock Songs That Waited Years Before Being Released

5. Exhausted - Foo Fighters

Since their inception, the Foo Fighters have remained one of the best happy accidents to come out of the rock scene. From day one, Dave Grohl was not looking to get famous off of the success of this little tape that he made in his garage, until one day he put a band together and became one of the most in demand live acts in the world. Though this may have just been a bit of self therapy on the part of Dave, Exhausted actually has its lineage back in the Nirvana days.

Before Kurt Cobain’s tragic passing, he had been starting work on what was to become Nirvana’s 4th studio album, with the only song You Know You’re Right actually surviving the final edits of the project. Kurt may have been the songwriting boss in the band, but he was beginning to open up to the rest of the guys and was floored by what Dave had brought to the table. Although Dave had already made his vocal debut on the single Marigold, Kurt loved the primal sound of Exhausted and thought it would work as a nice bridge in one of their songs.

That’s not all though, as Dave says that Kurt was also into songs like Alone +Easy Target. While Dave may have been a bit hesitant to start things over with the Foo Fighters, getting the songwriting endorsement from Kurt Cobain is more than most other songwriters would need.
