10 Scariest Albums Ever Made
7. Iowa - Slipknot
After emerging on the scene in the late '90s, the members of Slipknot now had a mountain to climb. With their first record, the band had made a sprawling assault of metal, as songs divulged into the creepiest parts of the genre without breaking a sweat. Given the band's twisted behavior, their sophomore effort wasn't going to be tame, but no one could have expected something like Iowa.
Looking to move past the sound of their first record, the band hooked up with producer Ross Robinson again to dial in the more aggressive side of their sound.
Approaching every single track differently, the band were determined to amplify every scary moment on the record for maximum impact, which paid off in spades. Though many parents would be outraged to hear this kind of music, Iowa found its way up the Billboard album charts, with the Maggots growing hungry for more each day.
Even with almost two decades under its belt, Iowa has been hard for any metal act to beat, with songs like "Left Behind" and "The Heretic Anthem" being the most tortured tracks the band has ever made. The making of this album definitely took its toll on the band, but given what they have to show for it, it's almost worth it.
