10 Scariest Albums Ever Made
5. There Existed An Addiction to Blood - Clipping
It takes a certain musician to make something that will horrify an audience. In the realm of the music, you can only rely on sound to get your point across, whether it's the lyrical style you choose or the creepy instrumentals you put behind the singer. You might expect something like this to come out of the metal world, but this album came from the scariest mind of all...that guy who played Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton.
Stepping away from his stage role, Daveed Diggs has built up quite a resume as the leader of rap collective Clipping, with some great albums like Splendor and Misery under his belt. On the other hand, There Existed An Addiction to Blood is a different animal entirely, with songs that depict both real and fictional horrors from one track to the next.
Across every song, Diggs is your dark narrator, as he sets up little horrific scenarios in every song from the frantic pace of "Nothing is Safe" to the horrors of man on "Blood of the Fang."
Even the interludes on this album are absolutely bone-chilling, with one of them containing nothing more than someone's account of a ghostly presence haunting their house. After only a year, There Existed An Addiction to Blood is still one of the most unsettling releases and recent memory, and with Clipping set to release another album this Halloween season, we might be in for another unsettling listen in the next few days.
