10 Sci-Fi Hard Rock Albums You Need To Hear
4. A Dying Machine - Tremonti
Shredder of Alter Bridge - and Creed a few decades ago - Mark Tremonti's self-titled side project was created to be the outlet for all the riffs and weightier compositions he couldn't do with those main bands.
It started heavy enough, but 2018's Dying Machine was something else. Seeing Mark recruit author John Shirley to help pen an accompanying novel, this became Tremonti's first full concept album. Yes, the album works as a hard rock record full of blistering solos, massive choruses and crushing breakdowns, but you also have the optional backdrop of a full sci-fi universe backing every beat.
The "Dying Machine" in question is an android purchased to replace a loved one, only for all the questions that surround the idea of artificially enhancing life to spin out into a full societal insurrection.
There are war generals, resistance fighters, our main hero fleeting back and forth out of love with the "dying machine" itself - truly it's ambitious as hell, and arguably his best solo work yet.
