10 Sci-Fi Hard Rock Albums You Need To Hear
3. Welcome To Sky Valley - Kyuss
One of the most sonically satisfying bands to ever play, Kyuss' bottomed-out low fuzz 'desert rock' quickly became legend in various circles.
Put alongside the likes of Monster Magnet and Fu Manchu, all these bands helped etch out a soundscape of expanding psychedelic guitar lines and reverb-heavy composition, the whole album filling your mind if you put on some headphones.
There's no overarching "concept" feel - nor a story tying things together in the same way as others I've mentioned - but Welcome to Sky Valley is every bit as sci-fi infused as those other works, through instrumentation and tonality alone.
Tracks like Gardenia, Asteroid and Demon Cleaner feel like what a space trucker would throw on in the background, while Space Cadet's acoustic twang is almost the bedrock for what Firefly or Outer Worlds would go on to sound like.
