10 Scottish Bands You Need To Listen To
7. Victorian Trout Conspiracy
With its roots reaching back to 1950s Jamaica, ska music - defined by "first wave" bands like The Skatalites - has since made its way around the world, making huge waves with the likes of The Specials, Madness, No Doubt and Reel Big Fish.
Unsurprisingly, the syncopated beats of the genre have found their way over 4,500 miles from the sunny shores of Jamaica to the rainy land of Scotland where a vibrant ska scene is fronted by the likes of The Amphetameanies, Bombskare, and Big Hand. However, the place on this list goes to the Edinbrugh-based band with the equally weird name: Victorian Trout Conspiracy.
Although the band is unfortunately no longer together, the small collection of tracks they've put out for our listening pleasure is sure to be of interest to fans of the genre or for those seeking something to put a smile on their face.
An eight piece collective, VTC is led by Fraser Fulton on guitar and vocals with other members providing horns, drums, and keyboard. Musically rich with plenty of energy and humour, tracks like 'Birds And The Bees', 'Ciderbam', 'Adopt An Elephant', and 'Super Duper Electric Scooter' showcase what this band did best.
