10 Sellout Albums That Don't Suck

2. Danger Days - My Chemical Romance

Ok...before the emo army has a field day with this pick, there's a couple of things you should know about where My Chemical Romance was during the development of Danger Days. Coming off of the Black Parade, there was pretty much no way that the band would be able to top the near perfection they got on their previous record. So where to go next?....the exact opposite direction.

Compared to the Queen like bombast of their former masterpiece, Danger Days is much more in tune with what was going on in rock at the time, incorporating a lot more synths into the mix and making for songs that feel a bit dime a dozen next to Welcome to the Black Parade. Aside from a few filler tracks though, this might be as ambitious as their previous effort.

Taking the story from one of Gerard Way's comic books, Danger Days is a smooth trip through a post apocalyptic wasteland, with songs that shift from radio rock like SING to garage rock bangers on Party Poison to the heartland rock sentiments on something like the Kids From Yesterday. Even though MCR was on the verge of imploding by the time this record was finished, you can't blame them for wanting to continue experimenting until the bitter end.
