3. Making Hugely Controversial Music Videos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiiBBFcTJBs When Korn first arrived, it was clear they were not your average metal band. There were no guitar solos, but there were elements of hip hop, and despite their heavier-than-thou sound, they were not a macho band. Nowhere was this more evident than in their favourite clothing brand Adidas. More associated with hip hop, and Run DMC in particular, Adidas had never really had any kind of foothold within alternative rock or metal. That changed with Korn, who seemed to wear nothing else but their clothes. They loved it so much, they immortalised the brand in their 1996 single, A.D.I.D.A.S, which stood for all day I dream about sex. The video for the single proved hugely controversial. A pimp and his prostitutes kill the band in a car crash, but they come back to life and thrash about violently, before its revealed that Jonathan Davis is wearing womens underwear. Ironically, the band signed a deal to promote Adidass fierce rival Puma in 1998, and then shifted allegiance again in 2001 to Pony, who even made custom kilts for Davis to wear on stage.
