10 Song Collaborations That Happened By Accident

9. Guns N Roses Alt-Rock Credibility - Don't Cry

At the turn of the 90's, the entire hard rock industry was turning a corner. With the grunge scene now setting the entire scene on fire, there was no hope for any type of hair rock band from Los Angeles to break into the mainstream. Though many bands of the 80's boom fell off as a result, Guns N Roses had the staying power to back up their tunes.

Much has been said about the band's extravagant Use Your Illusions records, which contain some of the most lavish production of any GNR release. Aside from the more flamboyant moments, one of the guest stars that surfaced ended up being on the alternative side of the spectrum. On both hits "Live and Let Die" and "Don't Cry," the backing vocals are done by Shannon Hoon, who would go on to become the frontman for alt-rock favorites Blind Melon.

That must mean the band's management must have been trying to find the right rocker to give the band street-cred right? Hell no. As it turns out, Shannon had known Axl Rose as an old friend from the Midwest and was staying with Rose while they were in the studio. Over just a few hours, Hoon gave his singing talents and marked the start of his prolific yet shortlived career.
