10 Song Lyrics That Nobody Understands
3. Are We Human Or Are We Dancer? - The Killers
The Killers are one of the most interesting acts to come out of 2000's rock. The band's throwback sound to the 80's gave the pop world some of the greatest songs of the decade, from the aching desperation of "Mr Brightside" to the wistful nostalgia of "When You Were Young."
Once the band returned from a well-earned break, "Human" was the first taste most fans were given of the band's new direction. Though the song stood out as a great single cut, Brandon Flowers' question to his audience still has most fans scratching their head: Are we human, or are we dancer? I mean, people can be both, correct. When pressed about the nonsensical line, Flowers admitted to grabbing the dancer idea from writer Hunter S. Thompson. While paying homage to great literature writers is certainly nothing new in pop music, it also doesn't necessarily give more meaning to your song instantaneously.
In recent years, Flowers has even admitted that the lyric doesn't even make any sense from a grammatical point of view either. The song goes on with Flowers still on his knees looking for the answer to his question. Whether or not he finds that answer, most of us are still having a hard enough time figuring out what the question is.
