10 Song Meanings EVERYONE Gets Wrong

8. No Surprises - Radiohead

No one in their right mind really comes to a Radiohead album to be cheered up. Ever since the early '90s, these rock legends have pretty much made it their calling card to make music that is designed to help you when you're depressed.

Then again, it's also just as easy to trick you into thinking it's happy.

Across OK Computer, you can already sense a foreboding atmosphere from Thom Yorke, as he talks about nearly dying in a car crash on Airbag to the surreal fever dream going on in Paranoid Android.

When you listen to No Surprises though, it feels like the most sunshine-y melody ever, almost ripped straight out of the Beach Boys playbook. That is, until you hear what Thom is actually singing. Suffice to say, he has something to say about his feelings.

Aside from little tangents about overthrowing the government, this entire song seems to be about living life with absolutely no hangups until you die. Though that alone feels like a positive message, you can tell that this guy is clearly suicidal, as he asks for a handshake of carbon monoxide and talking about the bruises that will never heal.

While this sounds like a lullaby on the surface, it's sure to give your kids nightmares if you dare try to sing it before bed.
