10 Songs That Are Huge Outliers On Rock Albums

3. My Second Album - Purple (Stone Temple Pilots)

If you're wondering why there's such a large amount of empty space after the song Kitchenware & Candybars on Stone Temple Pilots' second album, that's because its gearing up to present you with one of the most bizarre entries into the grunge band's discography.

A hidden track at the very end of Purple, My Second Album is a tongue-in-cheek nod to similar songs that are usually in completely different styles to the ones that came before.

In keeping with this theme, the song is a lounge jazz-style track about how good second albums are. It's radically different from the rest of the album, mostly because it's sung by somebody who wasn't even in the band!

Richard Peterson, a jazz singer the band roped into this little prank, takes over vocal duties for this lengthy joke at the listener's expense. Imagine waiting all the way to the end of Purple only to find this waiting for you. It's not even sung by the same guy!

In the end, My Second Album is less of a song and more of a commentary on the music business at large - and a damn funny one at that.
