10 Songs That Caused Huge Rifts In Bands
7. Revolution 9 - The Beatles
For many diehard fans of the Beatles, "Revolution 9" tends to be known as the forbidden song that no one wants to talk about. Coming at the tail end of the band's self-titled White Album, this is one of John Lennon's first forays into avant garde music, with a raucous soundscape that seems to embody the singer's idea of a revolution.
Though the entire album is a bit of a mixed bag of different genres, Paul McCartney just could not get behind having this off-the-wall sonic experiment on the record. When going through the 30 songs to put on the double album, McCartney was adamant about how the tune was out of place amid the rest of the album's eclectic mix of styles. Lennon, however, really believed in the song as one of the most ambitious artistic works he had ever done during his time with the Beatles.
Add to this the creative input of his wife Yoko Ono, and the writing was on the wall that Lennon's time with the Fab Four was not meant to last for too much longer. Even if there was squabbling taking place during the production of this record, no one could have predicted that a split was on the horizon.
