10 Songs That Led To Massive Lawsuits

3. Erotica By Madonna

Madonna is often called the Queen of Pop due to the longevity of her career and the number of hits that she has under her belt. It could be disputed when making the argument on talent alone, but when it comes to being sued, Madonna is simply pop royalty. She's been sued over at least four songs, including Papa Don't Preach and Vogue - and that's only the lawsuits that artists got around to launching against her. As the old saying goes, good artists copy, great artists steal'. We're focusing on the time Fairuz sued Madonna for said theft back in 1993.

Lebanese singer Fairuz is one of the most admired and influential singers in the Arab world. It's no surprise that an artist like Madonna would want to sample her iconic vocals. However, Madonna didn't ask for Fairuz's permission when she put her voice as the backing vocals for her sexual 1992 single Erotica.

Fairuz's famous Easter chant 'Al Yawm Ulliqa Alal Khashaba' ended up being worked into the chorus while Madonna sang 'put your hands all over my body'. The chant is question is about the crucifixion of Jesus and is played on Good Friday every year. Needless to say, Erotica wasn't Fairuz's cup of tea and she successfully sued Madonna to the tune of $2.5 million.
