Break ups suck. There is absolutely no denying that heartbreak is one of the worst things we go through as human beings. However, not all endings are bad. Sometimes, they’re actually for the best.

Some of the greatest songs of all time have been written after a heartbreak. There’s nothing like a killer break up song to get you through those tear-stained days. But what about those songs that celebrate break ups, freedom and independence? It can be hard to let someone go, even if that person is toxic, but once you do, you’ll be stronger, braver and wiser. These artists have realised that and they want you to realise that too.

Feeling like you’ve had a huge weight lifted off your shoulders or that you just dodged a bullet? Can‘t wait to hit the club and dance with your best friends? Do you simply wish that person would just disappear? These songs cover all those emotions and more. Add these songs to your ”Glad We Broke Up” playlist and sing at the top of your lungs - just because you can.

10. Cry Me A River - Justin Timberlake

Often referred to as JT’s giant FU to Britney Spears, Cry Me A River sees a heartbroken Timberlake losing sympathy for the girl who broke his heart. The song is filled with bitterness and spite and a satisfying kiss-off to a lover who has clearly done him wrong.

This song really helped to solidify Justin Timberlake’s post-N Sync career as an R&B chart topper. The video saw his image transition from clean-cut teen bopper to a sultry, contemporary artist. It also marked the first collaboration between JT and producer Timbaland - it was the start of a beautiful pop duo friendship.

Cry Me A River may start off slow and slightly sad but by the end it's clear that JT wants revenge. By crooning ”Bridges have burned, now it’s your turn to cry”, he hopes she will feel the pain he felt while he begins to move on.
