10 Songs Written About Other Musicians

6. Dude (Looks Like a Lady) - Aerosmith

When you're immortalizing someone in song, more often than not it's to compliment them on the impact that they've had on your life. Despite having some real malicious material, most songs are looking to celebrate someone rather than to just tear them down. When it comes to Aerosmith though, they had a few other plans for Dude (Looks Like a Lady).

For a mass contingency of Aerosmith fans, this is where the Bad Boys from Boston first started to sell out, with Desmond Child being one of the many cowriters they would hire in the years that followed. However, the idea of this song has more to do with Steven Tyler's life than anything else. Instead of just being a playful bit of nonsense, a lot of this song was indebted to Tyler running into Vince Neil of Motley Crue during their tour for the record Theatre of Pain.

Though Neil was a huge fan of the group, Tyler couldn't help but notice his appearance being much more effeminate than he thought, which inspired him to immortalize it in song. Being one of the biggest earworms on the record Permanent Vacation, this bit of friendly mocking turned into one of the greatest hits from this era of Aerosmith, going on to launch them into the '80s going forward. While some acts might like to just show their support for their fellow rockers, this is just a little bit of jabbing that managed to see chart success.
