10 Southern Rock Albums Every Music Fan Should Own

8. The Cadillac Three – Bury Me In My Boots (2016)

It would be easy to dismiss the unapologetically southern Cadillac Three (TC3 for short) as a simple party-hearty novelty act, but that would be to ignore their superb musical ability, and propensity for producing catchy, well-written tunes in the country-rock tradition. It’s rare that a band creates an album where every song has hit single potential, but that’s exactly what the born and bred Nashville trio did with their second studio release Bury Me in My Boots.

From the album’s title track, which prescribes a “little scripture, little liquor”, to the funky “Soundtrack To A Six Pack”, and easily singable “The South” (featuring country artists Florida Georgia Line), the influence of southern living, booze and religion is ever-present. The interplay between frontman Jaren Johnston’s lead and Kelby Ray’s lap steel guitar, which stands in for the more usual bass, heard throughout the album, can be fully appreciated in “Drunk Like You”, a more sensual, but still alcohol-soaked offering from the band.

From the amped-up, hoedown-ready “Slide” and “Party Like You”, to the tender “White Lightning” and "Runnin’ Red Lights”, Bury Me in My Boots has a song to suit every mood; offering whiskey-soaked rebellion, with that old southern charm.
